The slow march to the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event final table continued on day four with the field cut from 26 to 12 and a tight squeeze at the top of the chip count. Canadian poker pro Yann Dion leads the field on 2.67 million but the chips are evenly spread down the count to short stack Phil Ivey on 699,000.
Lee Nelson, who the 2006 Aussie Millions Main Event, remains firmly in contention for an unprecedented second victory in sixth chip position while four Aussies – Patrick Healy, Janis Lesinskis, Oliver Speidel and Mile Krstanoski – are still in the hunt for a spot at the final table.
It was a tough day for the day three chip leaders with Matt Turk bowing out in 14th (he held more chips going into day four than the current chip leader) while Queensland’s Tim O’Shea struggled for traction and bowed out 22nd. Others to be KOed on day four included Danny Chevalier (13th), Grant Levy (15th, to go with his 13th in 2008), Joey Lawrence (17th) and David Steicke (26th). Play will continue until the final table of seven is decided today (Saturday) with the final table to be played on Sunday.
