The 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event started in a blaze of colour and ceremony with Crown ambassador Joe Hachem and the past champions in attendance issuing the order to shuffle up and deal.
After seven levels, the field had been reduced from 152 starters to 68 with local player Brett Watson had amassed a stack of 257,400 and a significant chip lead over the rest of the field.
Others near the top of the chip count were Paul Sing (177,100), who won his seat in last week’s first ever Baccpo tournament, 2011 WSOPE bracelet winner Andrew Hinrichsen (132,900) and Canadian Elliot Smith (132,900), who has finished in the top 25 of the Main Event in each of the past three years.
Prominent internationals who’ll be back for day two included 2006 Aussie Millions champ Lee Nelson (105,100), Ramzi Jelassi (83,600), Jim Collopy (53,000), recent EPT winners David Vamplew (47,300) and (Michael Tureniec) 35,400, Maria Ho (44,600), Raymond Rahme (25,500) and Donnacha O’Dea (20,900).
The Aussies also fared well on day 1A, with Sean Keeton (110,400), Daniel Neilson (97,100), 2012 Australian Poker Hall of Fame inductees Jason Gray (65,700) and Leo Boxell (65,100), Tom Grigg (62,900), Peter Aristidou (61,700), Mike Ivin (53,300), Dean McIver (53,200), Matthew Wakeman (25,700), Martin Rowe (24,200), Jesse McKenzie (24,100) and Tony Hachem (23,300) all returning on Wednesday.
The list of day 1A casualties included Patrik Antonius, Dan Kelly, Brendon Rubie, Jeff Lisandro, Barry Greenstein, Randy Dorfman, Matt Jarvis, Terrence Chan and Richard Ashby.
