STAR POKER: Sibaei mixes it up to secure Summer Series title

The only mixed event on the Star Poker Summer Series schedule was a Pot Limit Omaha/No Limit Hold’em affair, which drew a field of 60 players and created a prizepool of $24,000.

Despite the presence of experienced campaigners like Graeme Putt, Warwick Mirzikinian, David Borg and William Skountzos, it was Naz Sibaei who captured the biggest win of his tournament career.

Sibaei was among the short stacks when the final table started but he picked his spots and steadily climbed the chip count until he had amassed a 2:1 chip lead over Viet Nguyen.

The end came in an Omaha hand where the betting went back and forth until all the chips were in the middle with Sibaei’s Jd-Jh-5d-4h up against the Ad-As-7c-4c of Nguyen. The flop of 7d-2c-3s left Nguyen in the lead until the 6d on the turn made a straight for Sibaei to secure him the championship trophy.
