The opening event has already been run and won with local Bernard Beh claiming his debut major tournament title in taking out the $200 PLO with Rebuys title. Beh, who was third in this event last year, had previously placed 15th in the 2006 Aussie Millions Main Event and was runner-up in the $3500 High Roller event as part of ANZPT Perth earlier this year.
It may have been a modest field of 36 but the field came loaded with some extra cash and, thanks to 82 rebuys and 36 add-ons, they generated a pool of more than $30,000.
The Western Classic, which will attract WA’s best players along with a handful of challengers from the eastern states, continues today with the $550 No Limit Hold’em Teams Event. The $2500 Main Event starts on Wednesday with two day one flights with the final table scheduled for Sunday. Keep an eye on PMA throughout the week for regular updates.
