AFL Grand Final week is one of the biggest on the Australian sporting calendar. Traditionally, Grand Final week kicks-off on the Monday prior to the big game with the Brownlow Medal count to decide the fairest and best player of the season.
But Grand Final festivities will commence 24 hours earlier this year when Crown hosts the second annual E.J. Whitten Foundation Charity Poker tournament on Sunday, September 25. Due to the timing of the event this year, scores of the AFL’s biggest names are expected to converge on the Crown Poker Room for this prestigious tournament and worthy cause.
Funds raised will again be contributed to the EJ Whitten Foundation, named in honour of the Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend, AFL Team of the Century captain and 1954 premiership player, Ted “Mr Football” Whitten.
The E.J. Whitten Foundation is a leading men’s health not-for-profit charity, and aims to increase the awareness of prostate cancer and raise funds for research into the disease via a variety of annual fundraising events.
The E.J. Whitten Foundation Charity Poker tournament is hosted by dual ANZPT Player of the Year and foundation ambassador Tony Hachem. The buy-in is $300 buy-in event with $100 rebuys. The winner will take home a $10,600 seat in the 2012 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event – just one of scores of prizes that will be up for grabs.
Festivities kick-off at 3pm on Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the Crown Poker Room, Level B2, Crown Entertainment Complex, Melbourne. To register visit www.crownpoker.com.au.
